I'm not a huge foodie. I can't look at a food or take a whif of something and know immediately what would be a good paring but I do know what I like and that's what Friday's (intermittently) are going to be all about.
What I want to share with you this week is my favourite chocolates. I love all kinds of chocolates but these ones are my weakness, and they were on sale on the weekend. Enough said.
Check back next Friday for my favourite cookie recipe!
Here's an interesting article to read. It would take a lot of mental exercise to remember these 15 strategies, while you're out in the world dealing with daily challenges, but sure worth it. Being happy feels so much better than being unhappy and it makes a difference in every aspect of your life.
I saw this on Facebook last week and I have to share it with you! Now this is the way to recycle creatively! Yong Ho Ji creates mutant creatures out of old tires. They are beautifully detailed and full of stories and emotion. These are only a few of Yong Ho Ji'sincredible work. To see moreclick here.
One of the reasons I've been so bad at keeping the blog up to date is organization. I have lots of great ideas but I need to have them planned out or it doesn't happen.
So, I've grabbed a calendar and I'm trying to force myself to write everything down in an effort to stay on top of upcoming events and promotions and to keep the blog and my Facebook page some what regular and interesting. That's the key point: interesting. It has be interesting for me too so I want to share what gets my juices flowing with you.
I love to bake (cooking not as much) and I have a few favourite recipes I'd like to share. I also love to experiment and try new things and so I thought I would add that into the blog as a regular piece...about every two weeks you'll see something food related. I have decided that I will post this on Fridays so if you're interested in a new yummy recipe, or want to know what not to do, look me up on Fridays. I don't have a name for this yet. If you have a suggestion, I'd love to hear it!
I am also interested in trying to live a green life. I am not fanatic about it but there are some things in our life that we do and that I'd like to do that I think are pretty good (pat on the back) and I'd like to share them with you. I tried to do that before but I found I was becoming a little too preachy. I will do my very best to give only the facts this time. I called it PB+J Mondays for (polar bears and jellyfish). Look for that on Mondays again. Probably not every Monday but when I do have something green to share that will be the day.
Another thing I enjoy doing is taking pictures. I have had no photography training and I'd love to take a class or have the time to teach myself but that isn't always so easy. So maybe experimenting and sharing it with you here will help me to learn and get better. Again, it may not be a regular post every week but when I do post a picture it will be on Wednesday for Wordless Wednesdsay.
So that takes care of Monday, Wednesday and Friday for some sort of regularity. The other days will have promotions that are going on, featured shops and artists I really like (and think you will too), and new items and projects I'm working on.
I hope you'll come back again and keep me company while I share a bit about myself and my life and while I experiment and learn new things!
This is where I share "green" things I find interesting and useful, either on the internet, in books or magazines, that I want to share with you.
Today I want to share a Guiness Breaking Record!
Our little community of Clarington helped break the Guiness Record for the most batteries collected in a 24 hour period!
Residents of our community, and the rest of Durham Region, were notified a couple of months ago that our recycling trucks would now be collecting dead batteries twice a year. What great news! It's so hard to know what to do with those old batteries. We were so used to simply throwing them away in the garbage until we learned the damage and danger it was causing in the landfills. Our family had been collecting them and bringing them to local places that accepted them but it was sometimes hard to find places that would do that. But now, we have the convenience of knowing they'll be picked up twice a year at the curb. And it's nice to know that those people who may not have heard about not throwing batteries in the garbage have an alternative too. It's great!!
The old record for battery collection was just over 440 lbs. The Region of Durham collected an incredible 11,288 pounds (almost 5,120 kilograms) of batteries!!!! Now that's how to break a record! On the video you can hear that Durham Region is the first large municipality in Canada to collect batteries.
If you'd like to read more about us breaking the record the link is at the bottom. There is also a few pictures and a video. Yay, Clarington! Just one more little step to helping the environment.

Wow! I didn't realize how long I'd been away from the blog! I am very sorry to have disappeared! I am going to try very hard to get to the blog a lot more regularly in the future.
One of the reasons I was MIA was because I was preparing for a 3 day craft show that happened at the end of October. I worked very hard creating new pieces for the two months that led up to the show. Here is a picture of my booth with my Mom and myself. This was at the end of the show and we were pretty tired.
I will be adding more pictures to the "My Work" section. And sharing some of the really fun custom orders I've been working on as well. I am also hoping to have some regular content to share on here, things that interest me and hopefully you too. And I have a few very special upcoming events to share that you won't want to miss!
