Merry Christmas Everyone!
It has been a crazy couple of weeks and I can hardly believe that Christmas is in two days! I have been super busy with selling the house (which we did this weekend! Yahoo!), completing custom orders, seeing the kid's Christmas shows and mini trips to visit family. It's been busy.
Then yesterday I discovered that my usb drive, that held ALL my business information and pictures, etc., was not working. Somehow I had downloaded a virus which erased everything on the drive. I hadn't thought to backup my work because I thought the thumb drive was backing it up. All I can do now is chalk it up as another learning experience. I now have two drives and I plan to back up my stuff all the time. It's just hard to swallow the lost pictures of custom orders that were not uploaded to the internet in someway. Most of the other pictures I can piece together from my shop, the blog and Facebook but the it's the custom orders that are lost.
Anyway, it could be worse and it was an important lesson to learn.
So now the kids are out of school and the Christmas fun begins! We will be enjoying our Christmas vacation and going on a house hunt so I won't be very active here until later in January.
I appreciate you all and I wish you a very Merry Christmas and a healthy, happy new year!

PB + J Monday
I receive some disturbing news in my mailbox this morning and had to change this post from what it was originally going to be to share this with you.
Did you know that the contriversal method of "fracking" to extract natural gas contaminates our water so badly that it could eventually make our drinking water flammable?
Fracking is a method extracting natural gas that is trapped deep inside shale rock formations. Millions of litres of water, sand, and tens of thousands of litres of toxic chemicals are blasted into the ground at extremely high pressure, creating cracks that allow pockets of natural gas to be released. This raises serious concerns about the effects this process has on water, climate, wildlife and people's health, and opposition to fracking is rapidly growing.
Please, please, please read this article from The Council of Canadians, to learn more, and then SIGN the petition to stop this from happening!!

PB + J Monday!
Oops, I missed PB+J last week. I thought about it several times but between working at my new business, Christmas, selling the house and general Mommy duties it just wasn’t at the top of the list.
Today’s eco tip is another habit change and is just as easy as the last one: Bring your own shopping bags.
Here's a picture of my cute blue bag. |
I know, I know, you’ve heard this a million times already. This may be true but I am still amazing at how many people have cart loads of plastic bags at the grocery store. Sure, it took some time to become a habit for me too, but now I prefer the fabric/canvas bags over the plastic. They’re stronger and can hold so much more, which means fewer trips from the car to the house and fewer curse words when the bag with the eggs rips open. The back seat of our car is full of these bags and I grab a handful every time I’m headed to the store. I also have a little one in my pocket for trips to the gift shops or for smaller items. It’s come in so handy since it folds up into its own little bag and fits nicely in my jacket pocket. Plus, it’s a really cute blue bag with colourful flowers on it so it’s fun to walk around with.
Plastic bags take forever to break down in landfills. We still use some around the house so I’m not saying I expect you not to have any at all. Just try to remember to bring your own reusable shopping bags when you go to the store, especially when you go grocery shopping. Some stores even give you points for bringing your own. And points add up to free stuff, so it will save you on groceries in the future. And it’s especially important to remember to bring your own bags this time of year when we seem to do our most shopping.
Although, you could just cut out the plastic bags, annoying full parking lots and crammed stores all together by purchasing a donation gift for your loved one from Unicef. They have great gifts that mean the world to people who don’t even know what a plastic bag is. Happy shopping.
